The data used in the distribution maps has come from the Hoverfly Recording Scheme, where all our hoverfly records are sent. My thanks go to Roger Morris for encouraging the publication of the maps and Stuart Ball for providing them.
This map shows the coverage in Vice-county 32 - Northants and the Soke of Peterborough at the tetrad (2km x 2km) level. As can be seen, there are still areas of the county with poor coverage, particularly in the South and West. Even many of the squares that have records have only been superficially covered so there is plenty of scope to expand our knowledge of the county's hoverfly fauna.
The following map shows how many species have been recorded in each tetrad. Any square with less than 20 species will be almost certainly under-recorded.
